[Travel] JB - Half day trip F&E @ City Square

Dear Readers!!!

A lot of people wondered whether Johor Bahru (JB), Malaysia, is a safe place to visit. And with all the negative reports that was reported in the Newspaper, one may deemed it unsafe to venture into JB. Well, I entered JB on Labour's Day (i.e. 1 May 2011) together with my love one, for a half day trip at City Square, which is near JB's custom.

I haven't been to JB for quite a long time, and to my amazement (sorry if I'm a little slow) the customs were upgraded, and it's air-conditioned!!! Ok. this shows how long I have never been to JB. And yes, the Custom Officers were much friendlier. For the benefit of some of those like me, who have not been to JB for a long time, or who wishes to enter JB, there are a few buses which you can take from Singapore to JB. I took 950 from Woodland Bus Interchange. A trip to JB Custom costs S$1.75.

Since I have not been to JB for a long time, we decided to wander around City Square only...

After walking around City Square for some time, we decided to have a quick bite at Vivo, which serves Pizza and Panini, located on the 4th floor of City Square, JB.

Just a brief introduction on how to go about ordering your food. First of all, you have to write down your table number as well as the number indicated in the menu of your food choices. With the order form(s), do proceed to the Cashier to place your order.

** Do note that there are different Pizza sizes...

For main dish, we order 2 Pizzas, the 7" Thin Crust, that serves in 4 pieces. If you are hungry, you may take the larger sizes.

California Strawberry Freeze w/ cream (RM8.90) & Cappuccino Charm (RM8.90)

Romeo & Juliet (RM12.90)

Italian Deluxe (RM12.90)

What I feel about the overall experience? Well, the service rendered were slow. Meaning the tables were almost occupied when we arrived, with a few uncleared tables. We sat at one of the uncleared tables. Prior to ordering our food, it took 2 promptings before the waiter to clear our table. *Groans* As for the food, it was average. I felt that Singapore Pizza Hut serves better pizzas. Oh well, it's very subjective.

After our meal, we ventured around a little more, there are a variety of choices i.e. Clothes, Cinema, Food, Hair Salon...

While gallivanting at the basement of City Square, where you will find a lot of food cusines, we came across Sushi King and decided to give this place a try. As the name suggest, this place serves Japanese Food - with sushi(s) rotating on the conveyer belt.

Among all the Sushi(s) that we tried, found some interesting-looking Japanese Food which were served differently in Malaysia than in Singapore. In addition, I have yet to come across such presentation in Singapore (Note: I don't see doesn't mean they don't sell, where some of you may have came across, and if you did, do share with me)...

Okonomiyaki

Takohachi Sushi

The Takochachi Sushi looks cute right? Haha...

What's my take on Sushi King? The Service Crew were attentive. But I can't say the same for the kitchen crew. Among the dishes that we ordered, we were told that the Okonomiyaki will take the longest, i.e. 15 mins. To the contrary, our Okonomiyaki arrived but our sushis took much longer. And that's after 1 prompting. The presentation of the sushis pale in comparison to that of Singapore, the fillings on the Gunkan Sushis were threatening to fall off. And the Seaweed were carelessly wrapped around. Oh well...

Overall, enjoyed this little escapade to JB. In my opinion, it seems safer than it was in the past, but of course, this applies to whether you are in JB or other parts of the world, pls exercise caution. Do not act and/or dress extravagantly, as this will attract robbers. Have fun exploring JB!!!

*Smilez*
