[Foodie] Tian Kee & Co @ Dakota Crescent

Good Evening Readers!!!

The recent hype on this kind of hipster cafe is beginning to rub off on me. So here I was at this vintage 2 storied block. An alfresco dining, Tian Kee & Co served food and desserts. I heard this used to be an old provision shop.

I was very excited when I saw the rainbow cheesecake. Ain that pretty? I'm a fan of cheesecakes, so how can I forgo trying out their popular cheesecake?

My heart nearly stopped when I saw the empty Yuan Yang Cheesecake at the display counter. Thank God they still had the cake when we placed our order at the cashier.

A glimpse of their menu....

We decided on the following :-

Iced Pink Lady (S$6)
Rose Syrup with Fresh Milk

A decent drink if you are a fan of bandung. What I like is that it's not so sweet.

 Peppermint Ice Nutella (S$7)

Too little Nutella. The bulk of it was stuck at the bottom and it doesn't dissolve easily. Only a slight hint of chocolate flavour towards the end but by then, there was more ice than tea in the cup.

Rainbow Yogurt Cheesecake (S$7.50)

An Instagram-worthy cake. It's light tasting and because of the yogurt, there is a slight sourish taste which is good if you are afraid of too much cheese. The rainbow design brings delight to the sight but not much to the bite.

Yuan Yang Cake (S$6.50)

The combination is very refreshing and especially fitting for a location and atmosphere for Tian Kee & Co. A western dessert with a kopitiam twist. The cake is divided into upper and lower half. The upper half consist of teh-O and bottom half is kopi-C. My favourite part about this cake is the upper half as it appears that the tea leaves are being grinded and added to bring out that extra "oomph" in teh-O. The gist of a good yuan yang is to have the best of both worlds and this cake certainly did it well.

Overall, it's a pretty nice place to chill out with friends. Will visit again for their Gula Melaka Cheesecake.

[Foodie] Lady M @ Orchard Central

Hello Readers!!!

It was on the strong recommendation from my friend that I decided to visit Lady M at Orchard Central. They are quite popular for their Mille Crêpes. Mille Crêpes is a french cake made of many layers of crêpes.

So here we were on a Public Holiday at Level 2, Orchard Central. There was already a queue forming outside the cafe.

There was a notice for diners that stated that the waiting time is about 15 to 30 minutes -.-"' Oh man... Since we were there, we might as well just queue and try out their pastries.

While waiting, I wandered to their counter to take a glimpse of the lovely pastries. Looks nice right? There's a counter where the servers would take the pastries and serve to the customers.

The cafe is very spacious with high ceiling, occupying both level 1 and 2.

We waited for 30 minutes before we were seated. Here is a peek of their menu. There's the cake menu and the savories menu.

Since they are famous for the crêpes, we decided to try their crêpes. We ordered :-

Signature Mille Crêpes (S$8.50 / slice)
Twenty paper-thin handmade crêpes stacked with layers of light pastry cream

I like their Signature Mille Crêpes the most actually. It's beautifully caramelized on the top, and is rich in vanilla flavour. However, it's a little too creamy, I would like it better if I could taste more of the crêpes.

Green Tea Mille Crêpes (S$9.00 / slice)
Fine green tea powder is infused into every layer of twenty paper-thin handmade crêpes

One plus point about this is that it has a very light green tea taste, so it's not overpowering. They are not stingy with the matcha powder which was sprinkled on top.

Chocolate Mille Crêpes (S$9.00 / slice)
Exclusive to Orchard Central
Chocolate shavings atop twenty paper-thin choclate infused crêpes, layered with chocolate cream

A little disappointed with this as I find it too chocolaty for Crêpes, so it taste like normal chocolate cake.

Conclusion
- Mille Crêpes: They are consistent with the thickness of the Crêpes. I had the sick, overwhelmed and jelak feeling after eating the Crêpes even though I shared them. Over-rated Mille Crêpes in my honest opinion.

- Service: It was slow... We literally waited for 30 minutes to be seated and another 20 minutes for the cakes to be served.

What astonished me was the design of the counter. They had a wide window opening where one of the staff would cut the cakes and place it on the table for the servers to pick it up and serve to the customer.

At times, the cakes were left there for a long period of time. I noticed that customers will walk past the window opening to make payment as the cashier was situated just beside.

2 incidents left me utterly disgusted. There was an incident where a customer was coughing away near the cakes *Ewww....* and the staff just left the cakes there. Another incident was a customer whose long hair nearly touched the pastry. Thank God, it wasn't our pastries.

Overall, one dine-in visit is enough. I doubt I will re-visit this outlet again. The pastries and the service cannot justify the time taken for me to queue. Plus if you dine in, there's the 10% service charge and the 7% GST.

[Foodie] Arbite @ Serangoon Garden Way

Dear Readers!!!

I was in the vicinity when we decided to have a quick bite. So here we were at Arbite... Arbite is located on the second floor.

We tried the following :-

Salted Egg Yolk Fries (S$8)

Seemed like they cook the salted egg first before dumping the fries in. Fries are a little soggy. I had an enjoyable time munching on the fries.

Salted Egg Crab Pasta (S$18)
Penne Pasta, Salted Egg, Curry Leaves, Chilli, Cream and Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab

Soft shell crab would be better if there were lesser flour. Overall, it's not a bad dish, but it gets a little overwhelming towards the end. A fusion dish indeed.

Gula Melaka Tiramisu
Layers of Sponge Fingers, Gula Melaka Mascarpone, Rum, Brandy and Coffee

I love this! It's soft, moist and spongy. The fruits added a nice touch.

Overall, I believe they added MSG into their dish because I was really thirsty after that. I couldn't tell while we were eating.

Service was good, the staffs were attentive. Food served is fast. I will return for the Gula Melaka Tiramisu ;)
