[Foodie] Salt Grill & Sky Bar @ Ion

Hey Readers!!!

Was at Salt Grill celebrating Christmas. It was situated in Ion. I was pretty amazed when I saw the address... Level 55 at Ion? I didn't know that Ion had that many levels. So at Ion, we went in search for lift.

We saw this "Ion Sky" counter, which at the right hand side was the name "Salt Grill & Sky Bar". We thus went to enquire and a lady led us to a lift which has only one button - Level 55.

Upon reaching the 55th floor, we were greeted by the Restaurant. Led to our reserved table, we were in awe of the view! We were told that only the Christmas Set was available that day, the Christmas Set costs $80++ per pax. So after placing our orders, we went to walk around the restaurant =D

The view from Level 55 Ion!!! I thought this place has a really wonderful ambience to it, and the view is nice and lovely despite the negative comments I read online. However, I was a little disappointed with the service. Maybe it was during the peak period *shrug* To me the service crew were very occupied and busy, and at times it was hard to catch their attention.

The Australian by Luke Mangan (S$18) /  Charm-Charm (S$18)
The Australian by Luke Mangan: Lime segment, lime leaf, ginger, cognac, gin cranberry, shaken with Luke's syrup
Charm-Charm: Muddled pineapple with basil leaf shaken with tequila and lime juice  topped with champagne

Our Matinis took a long time to be served. I forgot the reason that they have given us.

White Bread & Raisin Bread with Olive Oil & Dukkah

Tempura Oysters (S$36)

I was a little disappointed in the oysters. For this price, I can get better oysters from "The Cliff" (Read my previous post). Nothing to wow about this.

Entree:

Foie Gras Parfait, Toasted Brioche, Walnut, Mesclun Salad

This was my first time having foie gras parfait. It was nice, i finished every bit of the foie gras parfait.

Tempura WA King Prawns, Cucumber, Papaya with Tamarind Dressing

If you are prawn lover, you may like this one.

Main Course:

Christmas Turkey, Zucchini, Currants, Pine Nuts and Basil

Since it Christmas, we decided to try out their Christmas Turkey. The turkey was not bad.

Maori Lakes Beef Tenderloin, grilled with Celeriac Puree, Beans and BBQ Spices

Of all the dishes, this is my favourite dish. The beef was awesome. It's soft, tender and juicy =)

Sides:

French Fries, Rosemary Salt (S$8) / Truffled Mashed Potato (S$13)

We added 2 side dishes. These were not included in the Christmas Set Menu so there were additional payment for this.

The french fries were too overly salty! I felt like I had ate a packet of salt...

The Truffled Mashed Potato is a must try item. The textures was so fluffy and soft, and you won't stop at just one spoon.

Dessert:

Passion Fruit & Cheesecake

The initial order was "Luke's liquorice parfait, lime" but it was not available on that day and hence this dessert. It was so-so only.

Molten Chocolate, Milk Chocolate Mousse, Caramelised Hazalnut, Chocolate Glass

Wahaha... Birthday again! Anyway, this dessert was better that the cheesecake. Not bad =)

Tea / Coffee:

Overall, I felt that it's a little overpriced. For this kind of money you can get better food and service elsewhere.

[Foodie] Skinny Pizza @ Raffles City

Dear Readers!!!

First of all Merry Christmas Eve to you!!!

Skinny Pizza is the place I'm going to introduce today. The first impression that I had of this name was that how could pizza be skinny? Don't tell me pizza also went on a diet? -.-"' Haha... nonetheless, I was here recently ^^

We placed our orders when the waiter recommend their Can-Can Mocktail. Seeing his enthusiasm, we thus decided to try. The Kampong Glam Mocktail was prepared very briskly. While the Riverside Raspberry Julep Mocktail was only served after the Skinny Pizza arrived (We thought the waiter forgot to record that... -.-"')

Can-Can Mocktail - Kampong Glam (S$6)
One sip and I could taste watermelon and mint. It was a rather... unique and bold concoction I must say, not something that I would like to drink daily

Can-Can Mocktail - Riverside Raspberry Julep (S$6)
This was a little too sweet for me, though this taste nicer than the one above
Squid Ink Skinny Pizza (S$23)
A seafood feast with calamari, prawns, fresh tomato salsa, red onion and chopped parsley on a special squid ink crust

I enjoyed this dish thoroughly. Their crust was so thin and crispy and it felt like I was eating crackers. Unlike Squid Ink Pasta, this doesn't stain your lips or your tongue. Phew...

Spaghetti Bolognese with Mozzarella (S$23)
Prime minced beef spaghetti bolognese with sliced mozzarella cheese and freshly ripped basil

The bolognese taste was very strong but it was a pleasant dish.

There was no queue when we enter the restaurant, but a queue was formed when we exited. Overall, the service provided was ok, bearing in mind that it was a peak period where people are out doing Christmas shopping. The waiter / waitress were rather attentive.

On a last note, hope you all enjoyed Christmas which is... tomorrow! *Smilez*

[Foodie] The Cliff @ Sentosa

Hi Readers

Was at The Cliff, located in The Sentosa Resort & Spa, celebrating my birthday (again?!?) Lols... Heard quite a bit of this place and also I wanted to avoid the Christmas crowd in Mainland Singapore. So here we are hiding away in Sentosa.

When we arrived, the place emitted a kind of cozy feeling. We were warmly led by a waitress to our seat facing the Sea =) One glance at the menu, I was at a loss. Didn't know what to decide as everything described in the menu seemed nice. Awww... Anyway, here are pictures of our selections...

Mocktails - The Cove (S$13) / Apple Fizz (S$13)
The Cove: Lychee Syrup, Passion Fruit Syrup, Ginger Ale
Apple Fizz: Apple Juice, Ginger Ale, Mint, Sugar Syrup

Their Mocktails are awesome, I couldn't stop drinking my Apple Fizz...

Complimentary Bread
The unique thing about the sauce is they have Spicy Sauce. Something I have yet to come across in other eateries.

Tasting of Oysters - Selection of 5 preparations (S$28)
Umami: Dashi Pearl, Oba Granite and Seaweed
Sour: Lapsang Souchong Vinaigrette and Citrus Fruits
Bitter: Sorrel Juice and Salted Sago
Salt: Smoked Ham and Shrimp Floss
Sweet: Strawberry Espuma, Coriander and Balsamic Jelly

This is a very interesting dish, and they are extraordinary delicious. Each of the taste has it's own exclusive characteristics. Of all, I enjoyed their Sweet flavoured Oysters the most.

Hokkaido Scallop (S$30)
Tartare, Foie Gras, Truffle, Caviar, Sunchoke Creme

Pan Seared Foie Gras (S$36)
Apple-Celeriac Slaw, Lemon Compote, Green apple Espuma

One of the nicest Foie Gras I have ever tried. It's so tender and soft that it literally melts in your mouth. Yumz...

Lobster (S$82)
Lobster Strudel, Butter Poached Lobster, Sea Urchin Foam

This is one of the nicest lobster dish that I have ever tried.

Quail (S$63)
Esargot, Mushroom Duxelle, Parsley Pesto, Pickled Radish, Garlic Soup

Degustation Dessert for Two (S$48)
A little of Almost everything

From acidic to sour to sweet to chocolates, degustation desserts provide an assortments of different desserts <3

Since it was my birthday, the staffs were so sweet. They have given me this birthday cake =D

Overall, I had a wonderful experience. Food were served in small potions and it could be rather pricey but The Cliff is a great place for gastronomic delights. I will definitely return for another round of Oysters =D

[Foodie] Lawry's the Prime Rib

Good Morning Readers!!!

This post is about this place (Lawry's) which serve the best Prime Ribs *Awesome* Read more to find out....

I visited Lawry's twice because they had so kindly given my girl friend and I a Birthday Voucher each (our birthday are in the same month) to celebrate our birthdays at Lawrys =D Awww... Ain they sweet? (I think we joined as their members last year) I'm entitled to a free main course provided there's a minimum of 2 Diners. (Note: You can't combined both birthday vouchers together)

They served Warm Bread after you placed your orders...

Of course when you are at Lawry's, you have to try their Prime Rib Dinner which includes :-
  • Famous Original Spinning Bowl Salad
Crisp romaine and iceberg lettuce, watercress, shredded beets, chopped eggs and croutons, tossed with exclusive Lawry's vintage dressing on a bed of ice.

I find it rather amusing that they have to spin the Salad in front of you...

  •  Whipped Cream Horseradish

  • The California Cut (160g) - S$63
A smaller cut for lighter appetites includes:-

Idaho Mashed Potatoes
American favourite - whole potatoes, cooked, then whipped with milk until smooth and creamy

Yorkshire Pudding
Baked in small skillets until puffy and golden brown

Similar to the Spinning Bowl Salad, the chef will slice the prime ribs in front of you (Interesting...) He will asked you the choice of cut you desire and if you wish to have side dish to go along with the Prime Ribs.

Pictures really don't do justice. The taste of their prime rib is so exquisite, tender, soft and juicy that I cannot find another place to best them. Their Yorkshire Pudding (left side of the picture) is so delicious and it goes well with the sauce. Their Potatoes is simply one of the best that I have ever tried.

We also order their "Cream Spinach" (seasoned with spices, bacon and onion) as the side dish. On the picture, it may not look nice but it tastes really awesome ^^

Other than "The California Cut", there are different sizes pertaining to their prime ribs :-

- The English Cut (200g) - S$73
Three thin slices deftly carved

- The Lawry's Cut (285g) - S$83
Traditional and most popular cut

- The "Diamond Jim Brady" Cut (450g) S$108
An extra-thick cut for the hearty appetite

- The Beef Bowl Cut (735g) -S$156
An extra large portion

When we called for bill, they brought out the free Complimentary Birthday Cake and sang us the birthday song -.-"' and they also took a Photograph of us =D Note: These 2 pictures were taken on different days

Also, I wish to say that their services rendered was very delightful. They are sincerely concerned about your comfort level. Here's a picture of their live band playing Christmas Caroles...

Did I mentioned that they gave us another $50 vouchers? Yes, we will be back again! Go Go Lawry's, keep up the good work *beams*

[Foodie] Todai @ MBS

Hello Readers!!!

This is probably one of the best place to have buffet, and you will simply be spoiled for choice. Todai offer an assortment of food. From Korean to Italian to Western and many more!

So here we are, greeted at the entrance of Todai...

PS: I just love Christmas... Ain the decorations nice??? Aww....

There are also private rooms for larger groups of people. I was told by the waitress that you have to pay additional fee for this....

Okay, here are some of the sections available...

Cold Food
Salad, for a start, anyone?

Drinks
This section served beverages and miso soup.

Seafood
Snow Crab is a MUST! You totally have to try this! This is probably one of the nicest dishes here. It's so juicy and sweet! Trust me... you won't stop at one =D If you like oysters or mussels, yes they have them here as well.

Chinese
The choices from the Chinese Food are very ordinary... And after trying their Snow Crab, I felt that the Chilli Crab is not that nice, but having said that, their Chilli Crab is very popular among the other diners, the chefs have to replenish them quite frequently. Do try their Mantou, it goes well with their Chilli Crab sauce.

Sushi & Roll
Ahhh... This is the section where chefs display their creativity with sushi! There are so many pretty and colourful sushis that it felt such a waste to eat them. One thing I loved about their sushi is that they are really very fresh. However, tho some are nice to look at, they don't taste that nice. For instance, the Snowman Roll is so cute, but I didn't like the taste =( .

Churrasco
Hmmm... I didn't really enjoy this section... Just didn't find their Grilled items that fantastic. Nothing to shout about here....

Korean
It's quite seldom that Korean food are served in buffet, but here it is in Todai! Also, nothing special here.

Italian
Italian served pizzas. At least, their pizza crust is the thin ones, so you won't feel soooo bloated.

Western
They served steak and the usual western food you can find in Singapore. I love their Escargot, it's hot and creamy. Yummy....

Pastry
One of my favourite section. Love how pretty the chefs made their pastries. They served fruits, cakes, biscuits, ice cream, waffles (OMG! There are simply tooooo many choices). Of all the desserts, I love their Cheesecake the most.

There are other selection in which I have not mention about, for instant they have Sashimis, Oven food, Fried food (they serve tempura...) etc.... These are the very common food which you can find in most buffets.

My stomach was very bloated =( and I could hardly walk by the time I finished eating. I doubt I completed all the sections. So yeah I will be back again! We spent about $82 (including GST) per person on a friday night.
