[Foodie] Lao Ban Soya Beancurd

Hihi Readers

I'm never a fan of Soya Beancurd aka Tau Huey. It was this one day that my friend bought this particular Tau Huey for me that I'm forced to eat my own words back. It's really very different from any other stall. It was this Tau Huey that make me travel all the way to Old Airport Road. And it was this Tau Huey that makes me think about it now...

Some of you may know this popular stall called "Lao Ban Soya Beancurd / 老伴豆花" where neverending queues can be seen especially during lunch hours.

I have tried both the Original Beancurd (left) as well as the Almond Beancurd (right).

Original Beancurd (S$1.50) / Almond Beancurd (S$2)

What I loved about these unique beancurd are that it literally melt in your mouth with it's silky soft texture =D One important point is that it's not too sweet for me. Yumz... I was told that the Almond Beancurd is very popular and sometimes you may not be able to  purchase it.

So where exactly is it?

[Foodie] Canelé Patisserie Chocolaterie @ Paragon

Good Evening Readers!!!

I have personally enjoyed the atmosphere and food at Canelé Patisserie Chocolaterie located in Paragon, Singapore. One of the reasons I was drawn to this place is their design. They have designed this place so that they emit a feeling of royalty and coziness. Certainly an awesome place to dine with friends and loved ones.

Also, Canelé is one of the my favourite place to indulge in sweets and confections, especially if you have a sweet tooth, just like yours truly. As per norm, here are some pictures of my dinner...

Corn & Crab Chowder (S$10.50)
Plump corn kernels, succulent crab meat and caramelized bacon bits combine to create this creamy, chunky  broth

Club Honey Baked Ham (S$15.50)
Toasted bread with layers of honey-baked ham, omelette, mayonnaise, tomatoes, and crisp lettuce

Classic Carbonara (S$17)
Sauteed bacon in a rich creamy sauce, topped with a poached egg and aged Parmesan cheese

Mont Blanc (S$7.95)
Chestnut cream and candied chestnut creme Chantilly swirled atop an almond tart

Overall Verdict?
- Service: Servers are attentive, and they are quick to clear your empty plates away.
- Food: Club Honey Baked Ham -> I was awed by the presentation. It was a little hard to eat because of the height, but I savoured them. The honey baked ham and omelette were a marvelously done. Classic Carbonara -> Although I thought that this dish was too dry for me, I loved it all the same. Mont Blanc -> This Chestnut Cream pastry literally melt in your mouth. Not to be missed!!! This is a must try item! I was told that there are limited Mont Blanc being prepared, and once they are sold out, they will not prepare any more for that day.
- Do note that they will not take any reservations.

[Foodie] Western Bar

Yeehar Readers!!!

Today I'm going to recommend a place for the cowboy / cowgirls wannabe to dine in. It's a place called Western Bar.

When I walked into the eatery, I was awe by the cowboy display. You will find signature cowboy hats / guitars as part of their decoration. Nice ~~

Their menu shows a variety of food. Here are some pictures of the menu and the food that were ordered :D

Calamari (S$5.90)

Braised Lamb Shank (S$16.90)

Crayfish Pasta in Tomato Stew (S$10.90)

Creme Brulee (S$6.90)

Overall Verdict?
- Service: Not bad. A waiter open the door for us when we enter and exit the eatery. Thought it was pretty thoughtful.
- Food: Certainly one of the better place to dine it. The Braised Lamb Shank was tender and easy to eat. The Crayfish Pasta in Tomato Stew was awesome. And once again, yes I love the dessert. Simply must try item =D
- Yes yes, I will be back!

[Misc] Aunty Yochana's Cake Delight

Hihi Readers!!!

A misc post for today! My friend gave me these cookies... Aren't they cute? I loved it! This super duper cuties.

I was rather reluctant to eat them, as they were really very cute. It was through sheer hunger that i finally munched them all. Hehe... In my humble opinion, I prefer these cookies then those from Famous Amos. To me, the latter produce cookies which are very sweet. Aunty Yochana's cookies are not that sweet, much to my delight :D

[Foodie] Mel's Place Bar & Bistro

Hello Readers!!!

A perfect place to chill and catch up with friends especially on Friday (TGIF!) - Mel's Place Bar & Bistro is the awesome place to visit. Was introduced to this place by one of my friends. You can either choose to sit in the open-air area or if you are feeling warm, you may request for the air-conditioned area. We have chosen the air-conditioned area.

They have bands to serenade the diners. Awesome ya... Don't worry, even if you are sitted in the air-conditioned area, you still can hear them singing =D

Some finger food to go with beer or wine! Take a look at their menu which I retrieved it from their official website (indicated below).

We have chosen the following alcoholic drink and finger food! Yummy yummy...

Heineken [Jug] (S$26)

Cheesy Cheese Pizza (S$12)

Sotong Ball (S$12)

Chef's Chicken Wings (S$12)

Overall Verdict?
- Service: Okie, I thought they are quite attentive.
- Food: Loved the Cheesy Cheese Pizza a lot! However, after drinking half cup of the beer, I started to feel queasy, could be due to having too much cheese. You have to order the Chef's Chicken Wing. It's crispy and simply delicious! Not special about the Sotong Ball tho.
- Yep, I will visit again. One thing good about this place is that if you are into soccer, they have TV placed at nearly every corner. ^.^

[Foodie] Lenas @ Nex

Yoz Readers!!!

Craving for Pizza or Spaghetti? Here is one place you can try =D Located on the 2nd floor of Serangon Nex, Lenas is one place you have to go. *Drool*

We have decided to try their Pastas as we can add $6 for ½ pint of Hoegaarden draft. For their flavoured beer, they charged an additional $1.

½ pint Strawberry Flavoured Beer (S$7) / ½ pint Lychee Flavoured Beer (S$7)

Carbonara Creamoso (S$13.90)
Popular dressing of butter, tossed with sauteed bacon, grana padano and freshly milled pepper

Meatball Pasta (S$13.90)

As for their Pizza, they have this "Add $2.50 for 2 Flavours in 1 Pizza. Awesome isn't it. Anyhows, we went ahead with the 8" Regular Size Pizza =D

Escargot / Bolognese Pizza (S$17)
Escargot: Tomato sauce, mozzarella, green chilli with escargot
Bolognese: Tomato sauce, mozzarella, shiitake, portobello, porcini and button mushroom

Overall Verdict?
- Service: Pretty alright.
- Food: I loved the Carbonara Creamoso, simply awesome. I didn't really like the black pepper Meatball Pasta tho, although if you love black pepper as the base, you may love it. The pizza was really cute isn't it. I felt the taste of the Escargot was drown by the taste of the pickles. By the way, I prefer the Strawberry flavoured beer to the lychee flavoured beer.
- Yes, will visit this place again.

[Foodie] Shabu-Shi Buffet Restaurant @ AMK Hub

Update (01 Feb 2012):
Walked pass AMK Hub, noted that this place has been replaced by Burger King...

Hello Readers!!!

How are all of you? Miss me? I'm going to share another Steamboat Place with you, located just outside AMK Hub... called Shubu-Shi Buffet Restaurant. Yep, as the name suggest, it's a buffet style. Weekend Buffet Dinner costs S$21.90 (excluding Service Charge and GST).

I went there for dinner at around 5pm and the place wasn't fully occupied. There were only around 3-4 tables filled with customers.

What really intrigue me is that the food rotating on the conveyor belt. Instead of the usual sushi found in Japanese eatery, it's the ingredients for the steamboat that were rotating on the conveyor belt of this Restuarant. Interesting huh. However, I felt they should at least cover the ingredients instead of just letting them rotate around the belt without any covers.

Included in this buffet are free flow of soft drinks. I took sprite, but it tasted weird. It doesn't taste like sprite at all... hmmm... In the end, I took coke.

There were a few choices of soup bases, we choose the Chicken Base soup and the Miso Soup. And... time to dig in...

Overall Verdict?
- Service: Ok... Was attended to by an aunty.
- Food: I had better steamboat elsewhere.
- Don't think I will come back again, as the food here is average.
